CERT, which stands for Community Emergency Response Team, is a program that teaches us how to help safely in an emergency. Most people want to help, but without CERT training people sometimes don't go about it in a way that is most effective or safe for them or the people they are trying to help. CERT training consists of two portions:
A free online course (go here for more information)
A 6 week, paid, in-person, hands-on training run by the city ($25 per person or $40 for a couple; go here for more information and to register)
The Stake Presidency has urged us to get as many people as possible to at least complete the online course.
Brother Wade Bodell has offered his expertise in food storage to anyone who wants to take the next step in their food storage journey, whether that be the first step or the thousandth. He has offered to:
Allow people to come to his home to use his canning equipment or learn to bake bread
Join families for an Family Home Evening lesson on food storage
Come to your home to evaluate your current food storage (kindly) and offer suggestions for what you can focus on next.
To schedule an appointment for any of these free services, call Brother Bodell at (801) 360-4362
Single women must bring a companion of age 12 or older.
Does your family have plans in case of emergency? Does everyone in your family know and remember the plan? If not, take a Family Home Evening and develop or review emergency plans in case of:
Fire
Flood
Earthquake
Review these plans often with small children, who may have a difficult time remembering. Your plans should include meeting places near to and far from the home and who the children's safe adults are (having five, and counting it on their hand, is a good way to remember them.)
If you have questions about the city's emergency plan for earthquakes, please contact your ward emergency preparedness representatives for information.
